With a focus on quality, craftsmanship and longevity, we offer an alternative to fast fashion and trend driven consumption. We encourage our community to invest in good quality pieces, look after what they have and pass on what they are no longer using.
True craftsmanship lies at the heart of the brand. Designer, Jessica Keevil, studied the art of bag making in Milan under some of Italy’s leading bag makers and designers. Inspired to carry on this enduring tradition, Jessica makes all of her own patterns by hand then works closely with a master bag maker who handcrafts the bags in small runs.
We use only the highest quality materials. Our leather is sourced from Italy, and is chosen for its high-quality finish. We use Nappa bovine leather, which has a distinct suppleness that lends itself to our brand’s relaxed and luxurious appeal. Our second collection of bags has also seen the introduction of vegetable tanned bridle leather straps. We use premium solid polished brass hardware. Commonly used in equestrian tack for its strength and durability, it’s distinct look and feel is a KEEVIL trademark.
KEEVIL is committed to producing all of our products as responsibly as possible. Although we are not perfect we have strived to create the most sustainable supply chain model we can and as we grow we will continue to focus on our social and environmental impact. Our efforts towards sustainability include the following;
Intentional design | High quality and timeless design ensures our bags will be loved for years to come rather than ending up as landfill.
Minimising waste | Our design process not only minimises waste of our raw materials but in an attempt to combat over consumption we only produce what we need in small batches and we do not go on sale. As our capabilities grow we will also be introducing a made-to-order service and one off pieces which will utilise our left over materials.
Keeping it local | Producing our bags locally, in Sydney, Australia, ensures best working practices, allows for a more collaborative effort, allows us much smaller order quantities and supports our local economy and Australian craftsmanship. It also helps reduce our carbon footprint.
Leather | Partnering with a leather tannery with strict ethical and environmental stands. This includes a Gold rating by The Leather Working Group for their ethical, environmental and safety practices. They are ISO14001 (environmental management systems) complaint and due to their constant research of innovative and sustainable solutions, were one of the 5 companies chosen to take part in the GREEN L.I.F.E project to reduce the environmental impact of tanning. All of our leather is a bi-product of the meat industry.
Packaging | Our luxury boxes are recyclable or re-usable and we don’t use single use plastic.
Reuse, repair, recycle philosophy | This extend to everything we do, from our studio which is decked out in recycled furniture and reconditioned sewing machines to the vintage, borrowed and recycled clothing we use for our photoshoots.
